The FdG collection consists mostly of works by emerging artists in dialogue with pieces from historical movements in the 1960s and 70s including the Zero Group, Arte Povera, conceptual and minimal art. On one hand, many works in the collection explore reduced aesthetics with a great sensitivity to humble materials. On the other hand, a distinctive set of sober, geometric and monochromatic abstraction, such as the grid, are present. Themes of delegation, process, chance, combinatory, poetic language that critically describe the oddities in the world are considered in a large portion of the collection.
Inspired by the life, work and world view of the late artist Alighiero Boetti (1940-1994), Inaspettatamente (Italian for unexpectedly) opens 11 November 2021, co-curated by Gregory Lang, as a preview to the official opening of Cloud Seven in February 2022. In the exhibition, a dialogue emerges between Boetti and the living artists present in the Collection that echoes conversations around seriality and processes, order and disorder, and experimentation with different modes of production; either in a direct thematic connection or on a more intuitive level. Among other themes, the show gathers artworks that explore time, duality and otherness, and the artist’s position in the world with geopolitical reflections that consider the current state of our uncertain times.
This group show includes works by Rui Calçada Bastos, Fernanda Fragateiro and Gudny Rosa Ingimarsdottir. Rui Calçada Bastos is currently exhibited at the gallery in the solo show upright, open until Saturday 18.12.21. Find more information about upright here.
