Paysage en stéréo

In the exhibition “Paysage en stéréo” (Stereo Landscape) presented at the Les Jardiniers art center in Montrouge, Cole starts from his own perspective in the landscape. He explores how this gaze shapes, fragments, and recomposes the image. Cole invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the moments he has captured with his camera—to see a moment through his eyes, to share his memory of a moment.

For this exhibition, he brings together a collection of works that span different media, but are always rooted in photography and the representation of landscape. Through subtle, often geometric interventions on his images, the artist manages to confuse, surprise, and draw the viewer into his visual narrative.

The title “Paysage en stéréo” refers on the one hand to Stijn Cole’s images, which are often dual or presented as diptychs, and on the other hand to Cézanne, who seemed to observe his subject independently with each eye, thus provoking a revolution based on optics, the perception of planes and depth.

A hybrid cultural venue, Les Jardiniers hosts contemporary art exhibitions, an eco-friendly canteen, and events open to all: workshops, conferences, trade shows, creative residencies, concerts, and more. Located in the former workshops of the municipal gardeners of Montrouge, this renovated 600 m² space is home to a cultural project that engages with reflections on environmental ecology and our contemporary social fabric. A multifaceted living space, Les Jardiniers aims to be an open space where people can come and go, sometimes stay, stroll, learn, work, and meet. Opening up the field of possibilities. Above all an exhibition space, Les Jardiniers follows the rhythm of the cultural seasons, discovering itself through other voices and other perspectives on our world.

Les Jardiniers was co-founded by artists Fabrice Hyber and Adrien van Melle–Nehama, exhibition curator Henri van Melle, and artistic director Christophe Vix-Gras.
