Studiolo

Group show
Lazaro Galdiano Museum, Madrid (ES)

Guillermo Mora

From October 22, 2021, visitors at the Museo Lázaro Galdiano will find a selection counting more than a hundred pieces from the Studiolo Collection of Candela Álvarez Soldevilla, spread out in different parts of the Museum.

Curator: Alicia Ventura
Organized by: Museo Lázaro Galdiano, Ministry of Culture and Studiolo Collection.
Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:30 am to 3 pm.

At the core of this Collection is the studiolo of Renaissance Italy in the 15th and 16th centuries, as a private space in a palatial residence where the owner kept artistic pieces, books or documents, and where he would retire to enjoy contemplating the works, study or work on his essentially cultural hobbies. For this exhibition, pieces of the extensive studiolo that the collector owns, have been moved to several rooms of the Palace of Parque Florido, which fragments them into different studioli.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the selected pieces have a link in common: the representation of the head as a container of thought. Therefore, according to the curator, Alicia Ventura, this exhibition is a call to reflection. She also points out that these heads, these curious observers of the Lázaro Galdiano Museum and all its intricacies, will be day and night voyeurs of their fellow members: the pieces of an art collection.
