In an extensive body of work, Fernanda Fragateiro (Montijo, 1962), explores space in its various phenomenological manifestations – architectural, sculptural, private, public, temporal, socially determined, defined by gender – through works of sculpture, installations and outdoor interventions. Often varying in scale and working on a wide range of materials and references, her work retains a clearly defined style, the result of a minimalist aesthetic in form, colour and surface texture.
Her work has been exhibited in different museums and institutions such as the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna Contemporanea in Rome, MAAT – Museum of Architecture, Art and Technology (Lisbon), CaixaForum (Barcelona), Palais des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Harvard University (Cambridge), MUAC – Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (Mexico City), Centre de Création Contemporaine Olivier Debré (Tours), the Serralves Foundation (Porto), Museu Calouste Gulbenkian (Lisbon), among others.
