Cadence Video Poetry Festival

Lucile Bertrand’s film The Unforgettables (Les inoubliables) will premiere in the US on the occasion of the Cadence Video Poetry Festival taking place in Seattle, USA.
Tracing a multilingual lineage through the condensation of our collective memory, this showcase peers into the abstract spaces of female poets. A feature-length video poem and an accompanying screendance expand our understanding of mother tongue and of presence, even in absence. Have we forgotten what the women before us bore, broke, and buried to survive? A chorus of layered voices invites us to remember.

In The Unforgettables (Les inoubliables), 13 women interpret in their written languages the texts of 25 deceased women poets from different continents and eras who never met but nevertheless shared similar sentiments. Across eight scenes they respond to each other, producing a series of conversations about the constraints imposed on women, about wars and struggles, about writing and the boundaries of language, about relationships and the places we occupy in the world. Told in timeless black and white, the poems underline the extent to which the issues they address transcend time and space.
