G. Küng is a Swiss-American artist living in Brussels. She graduated from The Cooper Union in 2004, The Glasgow School of Art in 2012. She has shown her work across Europe and in New York; most recently in “The Weight of the Head,” a solo exhibition at the Wiels project room in Brussels.
G. Küng works across image and object making, organizing divergent elements in installations. Figurative paintings, photographs and prints, text based work, furniture-objects, material-based assemblage; all these come together. What the work becomes in the mind takes primacy over physical characteristics which are often fragile, awkward, or fleeting. She has an inclusive view of how bodily and mental operations compose understanding. She likes to solve problems, process language, confront emotions, investigates how images make us feel; so she uses all of the haptic capabilities that visual work makes possible. Personal concerns are intertwined with socio-political ones, untimately art is a humanist enterprise. There can be a fluctuation between intimacy and distance while seeking to connect.
