ÉLISE PEROI

Born in 1990 in Nantes (FR)
Works and lives in Brussels (BE)

Through her work based on weaving and opening up spaces, Elise Peroi seeks to translate what passes through, the breath, the atmosphere. Inspired by François Jullien’s book Vivre de paysage ou L’impensé de la Raison, she seeks to convey an all-encompassing vision of the world, where everything around us «is no longer a matter of ‘seeing’, but of living». Her work, which suggests suspended spaces, also refers to the notion of time, of the workshop and the tool.
Translating what precedes the creation of a work of art refers to Paul Valéry’s text, La philosophie de la danse, and leads to an awareness of the poetic aspect of gestures.

Elise Peroi has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions since 2015, including Fondation Bally (CH), Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome (IT), Fondation Boghossian (BE), Fondation Thalie, (BE), le Botanique (BE), Le Bel Ordinaire (FR), and Iselp (BE). She is regularly invited for residencies as part of her work as a visual artist and performer: Academia Belgica (IT), La Serre – arts vivants (CA), Le Hong Kong Arts Centre (HK), La Bellone (BE) and Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, Île de Comacina (IT). In autumn 2022, following her residency at the Academia Belgica in Rome, she presented a solo show at the CACC in Clamart. She has been in residence at the Fondation Thalie in Arles since autumn 2023.
