Spread on the walls, pinned, hung or laid on paper, Athina Ioannou’s floating compositions play with light, transparency, rythm and movement. She mainly uses textile: soaked in linseed oil, the fabric reveals the intensity of its colors and becomes a pure expression of painting. Her space-sensitive and minimal practice confronts the viewer with interventions that seem to materialize directly from their surroundings.
Athina Iannou studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, as well as the Art Academy of Düsseldorf. She has participated in several individual and collective exhibitions through Europe, her work is presented in several institutions such as the Insel Hombroich Foundation, Neuss (DE), The Benaki Museum of Islamic Art, Athens (GR), Le Dommaine Pommery, Reims (FR), and the Museumcultuur Strombeek/Gent (BE) among others.
